Egypt Equine Aid

Egypt Equine Aid (EEA) is an Australian charity, initiated in July 2014, dedicated to the welfare of equines,  in Cairo, Egypt. Founder Jill Barton, driven by her long-standing commitment to animal rescue, established the Egypt Equine Aid charity after witnessing the dire conditions of horses and donkeys in Egypt, many of whom are descendants of Australian war horses.

EEA's operation in Abu Sir, a rural area steeped in history, is pivotal. Here, amidst poverty, local families rely on working equines for their livelihood. EEA steps in where veterinary care is scarce and often unaffordable, providing free medical aid to these animals. This not only alleviates immediate suffering but also ensures the ongoing well-being of these crucial working animals.

Key to EEA's mission is education. By educating equine owners on better husbandry practices and providing essential equipment like fly masks and halters, EEA empowers locals to care for their animals sustainably. Furthermore, their outreach extends to the younger generation and local veterinary students. Hosting school groups and providing hands-on training to future veterinarians, EEA nurtures a culture of compassion and skilled animal care.

Donations to EEA directly support Jills' selfless work and the ongoing mission of the charity; enabling the continuation of vital veterinary services, community education, and the fostering of a more humane approach to animal treatment in one of Egypt's most challenging environments. This work not only honors the legacy of the Australian war horses but also makes a tangible difference in the lives of both the equines and their owners in Abu Sir.
